Q-1 What are the components of computer?

Ans.

Computers come in all types and sizes. There are primarily two main sizes of computers. They are:

 

• Portable
• Desktop

 

The Portable computer comes in various sizes and is referred to as laptops, notebooks, and hand-held computers. These generally denote different sizes, the laptop being the largest, and the hand-held is the smallest size

Computers are made of the following basic components:

 

Ø  CPU- A computer processor, also known as a microprocessor or central processing unit (CPU), is a component in a computer system that functions as the brains of a computer. It is mainly responsible for processing instructions of a computer program and carrying out computer operations.The CPU has two main components, the arithmetic/logic unit and the control unit. The control unit directs other portions of the computer system to carry out or execute program instructions. The arithmetic/logic unit executes all the arithmetic and logical instructions

 

Ø  Main Memory - Main memory is where programs and data are kept when the processor is actively using them. When programs and data become active, they are copied from secondary memory into main memory where the processor can interact with them. A copy remains in secondary memory.

 

Ø  Hard Drive - A hard disk drive  is a non-volatile memory hardware device that permanently stores and retrieves data on a computer. This may be your business data or data on class work for students or games. It has a larger capacity than the RAM

 

Ø  Monitor – Computer monitor is an electronic visual display for computers. there are two type of monitor (TFT/CRT) . Thin film transistor display or cathode ray tubes .it can be connected via VGA or other connector.

 

Ø  Keyboard and Mouse– Keyboard is the primary text input device. A normally keyboard has 108 to 112 keys. The keyboard divides into 5 parts. Alphabetical& numerical pad, functions key, special keys and arrows key.

 

Mouse, Sometimes called a pointer, is a hand-operated input device used to manipulate objects on a computer screen.
