INTRODUCTION OF INTERNET
CHAPTER – 3
COMPUTER APPLICATION IN BUSINESS
(INTRODUCTION
OF INTERNET)
Q-1 What is Internet,
Short notes on owner and its growth.
(or)
What is
Internet? Defines its Protocol/Terminology?
Ans.
Ø Internet
Internet is information highway, to access information over
the web, there is many ways of internet
·
Internet
is globally use by every user to interconnect with computer networks.
·
Each
computer has a unique IP address over the internet to access Internet.
·
Internet
uses the TCP/IP standard protocol.
·
Each
computer is a unique code or Id e.g. 102.168.1.1 which is identifying
the computer location.
Owner and growth
No one is
actually owner of internet, originally the Internet served to interconnect
laboratories engaged in government research, and since 1994 it has been
expanded to serve millions of users and a multitude of purposes in all parts of
the world.
In a matter of
very few years, the Internet consolidated itself as a very powerful platform
that has changed forever the way we do business, and the way we communicate.
The Internet, as no other communication medium, has given an International or,
if you prefer, a "Globalized" dimension to the world. Internet has
become the Universal source of information for millions of people, at home, at
school, and at work.
Internet Protocol/Terminology
§ TCP/IP-
When transmission
control protocol (TCP) couples
with IP, you get the internet highway traffic controller. TCP and IP work
together to transmit data over the internet, but at different levels. Since IP
does not guarantee reliable packet delivery over a network, TCP takes the
charge of making the connection reliable. TCP is the protocol that ensures
reliability in a transmission, which ensures that there is no loss of packets,
that the packets are in the right order, that the delay is to an acceptable
level, and that there is no duplication of packets.
§ FTP –FTP is used for copy file from one host to another host.
FTP creates two processes by the client side and the server side to process
such as control and data transfer process at both ends. Also ftp create two
different connection one for data
transfer and the control information.
§ Telnet –Telnet is a protocol used to
login to remote computer over the internet .The terminal
provides a way to remotely log on to another device, just as if you were sitting in
front of it and using it like any other computer. This method of communication
is of course done via Telnet.
§
Hyper
Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) -HTTP is a communication protocol. It defines
mechanism for communication between browser and the web server. It is also
called request and response protocol because the communication between browser
and server takes place in request and response pairs.
